Heard a barred owl calling in my backyard. Grabbed my zoom h4n with audio-technica at897 shotgun mic and started recording. Did some minor equalization to soften the higher frequencies and roll off the low end. Crickets are chirping in the background, a few other insects make some sounds. Soft droning of a couple planes flying by and vehicles from a highway about a mile away, but do not overpower the barred owl.

A curiosity not too many people notice is that the individuals and species sing at different hours of the night and are affected by temperature and humidity. Rain increments the volume and intensity of frequency of the different species, some days one to 3 species can sing. Others you can hear up to 6 species in conjunction with other types of none arboreus frogs.

A nice wet-themed ambiance of early spring in a small midwestern town in the us. The spring peepers dominate, always in the background. The american toads trill off and on (:38----1:04, 2:09-----2:31, 5:50----6:07, 6:25----6:40)there is also a distant dog bark, with echo at 3:31. Distant car horn at 3:57. Since this was recorded on a busy weeknight at 7pm, a lot of distant car doors and people picking up and dropping off kiddos for basketball practice, choir practice and other ancient extracurricular activities. There is a particularly good door open and slam and muted conversations at 6:43 to 6:56 and again at 7:17stereo recording made on thursday night march 29th, 2018 using a sound devices 702 and an audiotechnica bp4025 stereo microphone. M the"great togetherness meditation hall" was empty except for two meditators (one of whom can be heard leaving about three and a half minutes into the recording). The natural creaking of the building can be heard throughout. Additional sounds include outside crickets, cars passing on a nearby road, and an occasional airplane. A stereo field recording of hundreds of several species of frogs at spring in raleigh, nc. Recorded at a very large concrete stormwater retention pond. A recording of the upper pond in jones park, brunswick east made in january of 2023 on a pleasant summer's night around 10pm. I came for the wildlife, but also captured the sounds of city. Along with frogs, bats and insects you can hear music, a dog, a bicycle, traffic, and people. The conversation might not be suitable for children. The recording was made with the inbuilt stereo microphones of a zoom h5.

Autorickshaw: a field recording made in bangalore india, of a ride home in an autorickshaw. This was long before the days of electric autorickshaws (~year 2000), so the recording is the sound of the nasty, polluting-well-above-its-weight two-stroke petrol-engine variety. I was going home from a night out with with several friends spread out over three autorickshaws and sometimes you can hear the others in the recording. (the picture is not the actual autorickshaw in the recording, the photo is from pakistan. I didn't get a photo of the one in the recording, but you get the idea. ). Recorded on sony minidisc.

Recorded from the window of my attic flat in walkley bank, sheffield. This is the moment of new year's day 2021. You can hear a small amount of children in the background and one child suddenly shouting "happy new year" and scaring the bejesus out of me at about 3 minutes. I change position at 1 minute 30 (pretty much climbing entirely out of the window) and you get a much more impressive surround sound feel after that. There's also a huge explosion right at the end that is definitely worth waiting for.

One of my favorite sounds of spring and summer is the beautiful night-hawk. Around dusk they patrol the skies over generally open areas searching for insects. They actually seem to prefer areas where there are man-made structures; that's why you will hear them often in town, especially near baseball/softball fields where the big banks of lights attract their food source. They really do seem fond of and are quite common around towns and cities. Plus, another amazing fact that i read on the cornell ornithology website is that these birds do not build a nest, rather the female simply lays her eggs directly on the ground, and lets camouflage do the rest!. This recording was captured by my h4n using my rode nt4 microphone mounted inside a parabolic dish. Other than simply boosting the level by about 10 db using adobe audition 3. 0, i did no other processing to this file. So i decided to record some. They have "so much personality", with keys in the pockets (you can notice them on the run), a dog barking when i run, and the sound of the street at night. Late august here in the midwest is the time for the loud choruses of insects. This recording, done in the backyard of a small town, features the classic"ebb and flow and swell" of the dusk insects. Since a park is nearby, you also hear in the background the excited voices of kids playing---maybe these youngsters do realize that soon they will be back in school and that the joyous, careful time of summer play and reflection will soon be over. In late summer though the huge choruses of katydids and cicadas often drown out the simple beauty of this love song. Later, as the season progresses into fall and the temps dip to where the cicadas and katydids no longer sing, these simple, beautiful field cricket calls still last up to the time that the days just can't stay warm any longer. I like to see how late into the season i can hear these guys---something just hauntingly mesmerizing hearing this sound and no other on a mild autumn day, after a cold night. . 11/29/2018 - burbank, california. Rain, flooding, and mudslides come to california when a sudden storm hit today. Most people got off the freeways quickly and tried to protect their homes from water damage. This recording was recorded with a zoomh4npro (2018) set at 120 degree field-pattern mode. The zoom was placed on a tripod facing out a 3rd floor window into a dead-end alleyway below. This recording is great atmospheric sound. The water can be heard trickling off spanish tile rooftops and dripping from overflowing terracotta pots. From the passing cars on a distant highway, to the occasional cough of a homeless gentleman walking on the street below, this recording is genuine and clean. The loud buzzing is the ear-piercing mating call of the cicada insect, a sound that's hard to escape in the sultry summer months and semi-tropical environment of the south carolina low country. You can also hear tree frogs and i think maybe some birds too. Unfortunately there's also a little ambient whine of an air conditioner at times and me tip-toeing quietly around on the crunchy gravel dirt road. . . Because i didn't realize my iphone would do such a good job of picking up the sound of my footsteps. :). One friday night, me and my partner were eating dinner, and we both heard a click. She perks up, "what was that?" and i said "the dryer is running, probably something in it" and she goes "no it was inside" (our dryer is like a back door outside porch kinda deal).
